Forestry Principal Secretary Attends Launch of Ciambugu Electrification Project in Embu County

On 8 November, 2025, Forestry Principal Secretary, Mr. Gitonga Mugambi, joined national and county leaders during the flagging off of the Ciambugu Electrification Project in Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County.
The electrification project is a joint initiative between the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) and Kenya Power, and is set to connect 259 households to reliable electricity. The initiative aligns with the Government’s broader commitment to expanding access to clean and renewable energy while supporting environmental conservation efforts.
Speaking during the event, leaders emphasized the critical role of the energy sector, through the State Department for Energy, in supporting the 15 Billion Trees Programme. By promoting clean and renewable energy solutions, the sector helps reduce reliance on wood fuel and charcoal, key drivers of deforestation in Kenya.
The leaders noted that access to reliable electricity is a cornerstone of rural development, enabling households, schools, health facilities, and small businesses to improve productivity, service delivery, and overall quality of life. The project was highlighted as a practical example of how sustainable infrastructure investments can drive inclusive economic growth while safeguarding natural resources.
The launch was attended by H.E. Cecily Mbarire, Governor of Embu County; Cabinet Secretary Eng. Eric Muga (Water and Irrigation); and Principal Secretaries Elijah Mwangi (Sports), Esther Mworia (TVETs), and Betsy Njagi (Blue Economy), among other leaders and residents, who welcomed the project as a significant milestone in advancing development and sustainability in the region.
