15 Billion Tree Growing Campaign

The Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry and the State Department for Forestry, is implementing the Presidential Directive on the 15 Billion Tree Growing Initiative (National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Programme 2023–2032).

Launched by H.E. William Samoei Ruto, this national mission seeks to restore 10.6 million hectares of degraded landscapes and increase Kenya’s tree cover to 30% by 2032.

The initiative targets restoration across forests, water towers, rangelands, farmlands, wetlands, marine ecosystems, and urban areas through tree growing and sustainable land management practices. It responds to climate change, biodiversity loss and land degradation while creating green jobs, strengthening food security, improving water resources and enhancing community livelihoods.

Mission 15B is a whole-of-government and whole-of-society effort, bringing together national and county governments, private sector, development partners, communities and every Kenyan citizen.

Grow a Tree. Restore a Landscape. Secure Our Future.
