NYINYIRA BRIDGE OPENS TO BOOST FOREST RESTORATION IN KAPTUMEK/KAJULU FOREST BLOCK.

 Restoring forests requires more than planting trees it also depends on the infrastructure that enables restoration work to reach the areas that need it most.

EarthLungs last week welcomed the Deputy Head of Public Service, Mr. Amos Gathecha, the Principal Secretary for Forestry, Mr. Gitonga Mugambi, Aldai MP Hon. Marianne Jebet Kitany, the Secretary for Forest Development, Mr. George Tarus, the Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr. Alex Lemarkoko, alongside other government leaders and stakeholders, for the official opening of the Nyinyira Bridge at the Kaptumek/Kajulu (Old Bonjoge) Forest Block.

Constructed by EarthLungs, the new bridge is expected to significantly improve access to restoration sites, making it easier to transport seedlings, support nursery and field operations, and strengthen conservation activities throughout the forest landscape. The infrastructure will play a vital role in enhancing the efficiency and long-term success of ongoing ecosystem restoration efforts.

The visit also highlighted the progress achieved through the partnership between EarthLungs and the Government of Kenya under the national 15 Billion Trees Programme. Since April 2023, EarthLungs has restored extensive sections of the Kaptumek/Kajulu Forest Block by planting 1.97 million trees, contributing to the country’s ambitious target of increasing tree cover and restoring degraded ecosystems by 2032.

Speaking during the event, leaders reaffirmed the importance of strong partnerships between government, the private sector, and local communities in accelerating landscape restoration and addressing the impacts of climate change.
