NATIONAL LEADERS LEAD TREE GROWING EXERCISE TO ADVANCE KENYAS 15BILLION TREE CAMPAIGN.

Senior Government leaders  joined members of the local community for a tree growing exercise at the Chepkiep/Kiptangus Forest, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to restoring degraded ecosystems and accelerating the implementation of Kenya’s ambitious target of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.

The exercise brought together the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei; the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Deborah Barasa; the Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Festus Ng’eno; the Principal Secretary for Forestry, Gitonga Mugambi; the Chief Conservator of Forests, Alex Lemarkoko; the Governor of Nandi County, Stephen Sang; other Government leaders; and members of the surrounding community.

The tree growing exercise underscored the critical role of forests in mitigating the effects of climate change, safeguarding water towers, conserving biodiversity, and strengthening the country’s resilience to the impacts of a changing climate. It also highlighted the importance of restoring degraded landscapes to support sustainable livelihoods and secure environmental resources for future generations.

The event forms part of the nationwide implementation of the 15 Billion Tree Growing Programme, which seeks to increase Kenya’s tree cover while promoting ecosystem restoration through a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach.

Speaking during the exercise, the Ambassador for the 15 Billion Tree Growing Campaign reaffirmed a commitment to championing the national initiative and called upon all Kenyans to actively participate in tree growing and nurturing efforts. The Ambassador noted that every tree planted and successfully nurtured represents an investment in environmental conservation, climate action, sustainable livelihoods, and the well-being of future generations.

The Government continues to encourage individuals, communities, institutions, and the private sector to support the national tree growing campaign as part of collective efforts to build a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient Kenya.
