KEWASIP Strengthens County Collaboration for Watershed Restoration in Meru

On 28th January 2026, the Project Coordinator of the Kenya Watersheds Services Improvement Project (KEWASIP), Dr. Winnie Musila, led her team on a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Meru County, Ms. Linda Kiome, to strengthen collaboration on landscape restoration efforts.
The meeting focused on preparations for a three-day field mission to identify degraded areas requiring urgent restoration and sustainable management. The engagement highlighted the shared commitment between the county government and KEWASIP to protect critical watershed ecosystems that support livelihoods, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
Dr. Musila emphasized the importance of close coordination with county leadership to ensure restoration interventions are locally informed, inclusive, and impactful, noting that accurate mapping of degraded areas is key to improving water security and environmental sustainability.
Deputy Governor Kiome reaffirmed the county’s support, underscoring the importance of conserving water catchment areas for agriculture, water supply, and community livelihoods. Both parties also agreed to strengthen community participation to enhance local ownership and long-term sustainability.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the World Bank Group, the State Department for Forestry, Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, the Council of Governors, and county officials from Meru and Isiolo.
