KEWASIP Implementation Support Mission Launched
On 26th January 2026, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Forestry, Mr. Gitonga Mugambi, presided over the kick-off meeting for the Implementation Support Mission of the Kenya Watersheds Services Improvement Project (KEWASIP) at the Edge Convention Center.
KEWASIP is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry and the World Bank Group, aimed at restoring degraded landscapes and strengthening watershed services to enhance climate resilience and improve livelihoods across 12 counties.
Anchored on the National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy (2023–2032), the project focuses on rehabilitating key ecosystems, including forests, water towers, wetlands, rangelands, riparian areas, agro-ecosystems, and settlements, through an integrated watershed approach.
The meeting brought together senior national and county officials and heads of State Agencies, including the Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Forestry Research Institute, National Environment Trust Fund, and representatives from the Council of Governors, underscoring the importance of coordinated action in advancing ecosystem restoration and the national #15BillionTreesBy2032 target.
