Kenya Hosts Côte d’Ivoire for South-South Forest Monitoring Exchange
On 24th February 2026, Kenya hosted the second day of the South-South Knowledge Exchange Visit by Côte d’Ivoire on innovative forest monitoring in Sub-Saharan Africa, led by Dr. Magrate Kaigongi from the State Department for Forestry.
The discussions focused on country-led planning approaches, institutional coordination, data management systems, and integrating technology for real-time forest monitoring. Participants emphasized aligning national systems with global restoration commitments while addressing capacity gaps and enhancing accountability.
Community engagement and youth-led restoration emerged as key pillars, showcasing how local participation and digital tools can strengthen forest protection, monitoring, and economic empowerment. The meeting concluded with a commitment to deepen collaboration, data exchange, and capacity building for sustainable forest management.
