Kenya and JICA Deepen Partnership on Sustainable Forest Management
On 6th February 2026, Forestry Principal Secretary Mr. Gitonga Mugambi hosted a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by Director General for the Global Environment Department, Mr. Ito Teruyuki, at the Ministry headquarters in Nairobi.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in sustainable forest management and climate resilience through the Sustainable Forest Management and Landscape Restoration Project (SFS-CORECC), a joint initiative between the Government of Kenya and JICA.
Discussions reviewed key achievements under the project, including support to the recently launched National Commercial Forestry Strategy unveiled at Nadoto Primary School in Turkana County.
The SFS-CORECC Project aims to promote sustainable forest resource management while enhancing community resilience, contributing to the national target of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.
Senior State Department officials, led by Forest Development Secretary Mr. George Tarus, also attended the meeting.
