Kenya and France Strengthen Cooperation on Forest Protection and Climate Action

On 13th February 2026, Forest Development Secretary Mr. George Tarus joined the leadership of the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), led by Commandant Mr. Mohammed A. Mohammed, in hosting France’s Minister of State for Francophonie and International Partnerships and French Citizens Abroad, Ms. Eléonore Caroit, during a high-level visit to Karura Forest.
The delegation toured the KFS Command Centre and inspected modern firefighting equipment, highlighting Kenya’s efforts to strengthen forest protection, enhance rapid response to wildfires, and build climate resilience through sustainable forest management.
The visit forms part of broader Kenya–France cooperation on environmental protection and climate action, with France reaffirming its support for Kenya’s forest restoration agenda and the national target of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.
The engagement underscored the importance of international partnerships in mobilizing technical expertise, resources, and innovation to safeguard forests and advance sustainable development.
