Kenya Advances Lake Victoria Basin Multi-Sectoral Programme

On 23rd February 2026, Forestry Principal Secretary Mr. Gitonga Mugambi joined Eng. Festus Ng’eno, Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, for a consultative meeting on the Lake Victoria Basin Regional Multi-Sectoral, Multiphase Programme (rMPA).
The meeting brought together representatives from the Council of Governors, key State Departments, the National Treasury, and other stakeholders to align policy direction and strengthen coordination ahead of the Programme’s submission for financing.
The rMPA aims to address ecosystem degradation, pollution, declining water quality, unsustainable fisheries, and agriculture, while creating inclusive green and blue jobs. PS Mugambi commended technical officers for enhancing cross-sectoral alignment and emphasized accountability and collaboration between national and county governments for successful implementation.
